Jen Hume, M.S.

Jen Hume, M.S.

I’m Jen Hume; mom, licensed counselor, and educator specializing in children, parenting, and childhood healing.

Many people and experiences guided me to begin this work – and my children were the greatest inspiration of all. Intensely researching early childhood development and the effects of parenting after the birth of my son in 2008 led me to question everything I thought I knew about raising kids and what it meant to be a ‘good’ parent. It also led to a healing journey of my own. And this work was born from the answers I found.

In 2005 I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University in Human Development and Family Science. I had interned with a parent education program and knew that I wanted to work with families. A series of incredible people and events called me to elementary school counseling in Culver, Oregon in 2006, and I completed a Master of Science in Counseling degree from OSU in 2009. At the same time, I expanded my professional experience by mentoring adolescent girls through Big Brothers Big Sisters and volunteering in a therapeutic classroom for toddlers at the local relief nursery. I opened my private practice in the summer of 2011.

My mission is to support other parents in their parenting journeys, work with children in the successful ways I learned through my work and volunteer experiences, and guide adults in identifying patterns rooted in childhood experiences and working through them to live free and joy-filled lives. I accomplish this with creative tools, practical insights, and a reflective, supportive process so clients can thrive and live deeply in joyful connection.

Counseling Style

I’m so glad you have found me. My passion is counseling and teaching the skills and tools I’ve learned on my journey. It is my highest honor to empower, support, guide, and challenge my clients in ways that actually change the way their brains work.

I use current knowledge from the exciting field of Interpersonal Neurobiology and researched-based tools from the Institute of Heart Math, along with my skill and experience in counseling, to promote a shift – from reactive, negative, and cyclical patterns to freedom through insight and awareness.
