GREECE: September 2019

– Upon arrival at Athens airport you are welcomed to Greece by our local representative as you exit customs into
the arrivals hall, and transferred to your hotel where you are assisted with check-in procedures.

– Enjoy a full day discovering the rich heritage of Greece’s capital with your expert guide. This morning’s tour
introduces you to the complex of monuments that most symbolize Athens – the Acropolis. The highlight of your
tour to the Acropolis is the Parthenon, one of the most important ancient monuments in the Western world,
which was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and was conceived in 447BC. At the foot of the Acropolis Rock is the
museum, which exhibits around 4000 articles in natural light, with special climate-controlled measures protecting
them from sunlight.
* The most impressive part of the museum is its top floor, where visitors are able to view the famous frieze
and then look out on to the view the Parthenon itself.
– Afterwards, stroll through the ancient district of Plaka, one of the most picturesque and interesting parts of the
city. This afternoon, continue to the Benaki Museum, a fascinating display of eclectic Greek and Oriental art
housed in the Benaki family house.
– Before returning to your hotel, you can pass by the Panathenaic Stadium, a pure marble masterpiece that hosted
the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. (8 hours, driver and guide)

Delphi was home to the god Apollo and its position on a spur of Mount Parnassus makes it one of the most
enchanting sites in Greece.
– Leave Athens to discover this impressive place, which was, in antiquity, regarded as the center of the world. The
site had been sacred since at least the Bronze Age and, according to legend, the shrine was originally guarded by
the dragon Python. He was defeated by Apollo who then took over the oracle.
– The visible ruins belong to the last temple, dated to the fourth century BC. Follow the Sacred Way to see the
Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo, and the amphitheater where the Pythian Games were celebrated
in antiquity.
– Afterwards, you can also visit the Delphi Archaeological Museum, which displays many valuable treasures that
were found at the site.
– On your return journey to Athens, stop en route near the village of Distomo to admire the architecture and
mosaics of Osios Loukas Monastery, which is still inhabited to this day. The monastery lies on the west slope of
Mount Helikon, below the acropolis of ancient Steirion, and the views are something to behold! (10 hours, driver
and guide)

– Depending on your flight time today, take the morning to explore Athens a bit on your own
– Meet your driver and transfer to the airport for your flight to Santorini (TBD)
– Upon arrival in Santorini you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel for a restful evening

Head for Fira this morning on your half-day excursion to soak up the town’s vibrant atmosphere and take the
opportunity to photograph the spectacular views over the multi-colored cliffs.
-After a short stroll in Fira, and depending on interest, you may wish to drive north to Oia. Known for being the
most picturesque town in Santorini, gaze at the beautiful white-washed houses sculpted from the rocky clifftops,
its windmills and caves perched up on the very edge of the precipice. Continue with a visit to one of the three
best wineries on the island, which is sure to convince you that this Aegean Sea isle, with some of the oldest
vineyards in the world, produces truly unique white wine using the Assyrtiko grape. Red Wine connoisseurs,
however, are very much impressed by the up and coming Mavrotragano variety. Alternatively, art lovers may
prefer to visit the Art Space, a unique gallery set within caves of pumice rock. (4 hours, driver and guide).

– The essence of Santorini is not simply its stunning whitewashed houses and chapels with uninterrupted views
across the Aegean Sea; it also has an extraordinary ancient past.
– Together with your expert local guide, explore the impressive Akrotiri excavation site, which is a must-see during
your stay on the island. After the sudden and successful evacuation of its inhabitants in the 17th century BC, the
Minoan town of Akrotiri was buried by a widespread Theran eruption. Subsequently, Akrotiri’s buildings and their
contents were naturally preserved under a thick layer of volcanic ash which covered the entire island.
– To some, this significant archaeological site is a fascinating Minoan centre of commerce; to others, it’s a Greek
version of Pompeii, but true romantics believe it to be the legendary lost city of Atlantis. The site will be brought
to life at the Museum of Prehistoric Fira, where you see representative artefacts and frescoes from the excavated
buildings. (4 hours, driver and guide)

Meet your driver and transfer in the comfort of your private luxury vehicle to Santorini port where you will board
your ferry to Mykonos.
-Upon arrival at Mykonos port, you will be met and privately transferred to your hotel, where you will be assisted
with check-in.
– Mykonos is a cosmopolitan island of whitewashed houses, little chapels, a gorgeous blue sea, and beautiful
beaches. The authentic cubist charms and chic café-bar-boutique scene that draws in visitors each year. During
the summer months, it becomes the hub for beach parties and glitz and glamour, rivalling St Tropez and Ibiza for
its hedonistic way of life. It is the perfect location from which to visit the nearby island of Delos, the mythological
birthplace of Apollo. A famous row of windmills adorns the island, and the best views can be found from the 400 –
year-old Boni Windmill, standing just above the town.
– Mykonos town has an array of unique bars and restaurants but finding them, amongst the narrow winding
streets, can be a challenge! Your guide will escort you this evening and help you to navigate the labyrinth of
cobbled alleys at the heart of this stunning white-washed town.
o Begin with the area known as Little Venice, sipping a cocktail while enjoying the view of the sunset,
framed by the iconic windmills. Be sure not to forget your sunglasses!
– Later you are shown the locations of the best restaurants as you explore some of the boutiques and
jewelry stores that open late into the evening. At the end of the tour, choose to return to your hotel or, if
you prefer, your transfer can be arranged to take you back after you have dined. (up to 4 hours w/ guide,
return transfers)
